About UsMicro Aviation has grown from being one mans passion to becoming the most successful microlight aircraft manufacturing company in the southern hemisphere.
Since 1983 through constant improvement, development and good old fashioned kiwi ingenuity we have consistently provided customers with fun, easy to fly, reliable aircraft.
Sadly Max Clear passed away in 2011, but his company and his vision of simple affordable flight lives on.
Max Clear - The Flying Kiwi
Max fell in love with flying when as a child he saw a crop duster who when he waved wiggled its wings at him. From that moment he was hook. Whilst at school he was encouraged by a teacher to develop his passion and was given the planes to make his own plane. Max didn’t get a chance to build this plane, but after leaving school and becoming a farmer he learned to fly in a Piper Cub.
The first plane he built was a Turbulent . Following this Max went on and built a Pits Special Bi Plane in which he became a very accomplished pilot, wining many trophies and awards at shows in the 1980’s, including ‘Cutting a ribbon’ an incredible 7 times. It was in this Pits Special that Max and friend Greg McNichol set a the first record for flying from Cap Reinga to Bluff.
The Bantam is born
Max wanted a new challenge and so he we to the USA to buy an aircraft to fly. He couldn’t find anything to suit his needs, so in true Kiwi No 8 Wire tradition he decided with a friend to make his own. He formed a group of ten like minded Kiwis to help each other to build a completely new aircraft. This was to become the B10, initially named as they only intend to build ten and then enjoy flying them.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your point of view, the plane was incredibly popular with the initial ten owners and their friends that more had to be made and MIrco Aviation was born.
Onward and Upward
Since this almost accidental birth, we have grown and developed. Our watch words are safety and fun. Ultimately our aircraft must be safe, but they must also be fun to fly, transferring Max’s initial passion for flying to everyone who flies in one of our Aircraft.
We are certified and regularly audited by the CAA to the same quality and certifications as Boeing and Airbus Industries, only on a Kiwi scale. In all our years of operation we have never had a single defect in any of our manufactured parts. This 100% record is something we are very proud of.
The Bantam has proved so popular that we are now the Southern Hemisphere’s most successful aircraft manufacturer, exporting aircraft around the world.
